Powered by Pickle provides media partners with a private label platform to receive, manage, and display user-generated photo and video content. The Powered by Pickle platform is designed so that a publisher can focus less on technical barriers and more on great editorial. With Powered by Pickle, editors and producers can choose to drop galleries into a site with ease and have results about as quickly as the designers can turn around the look and feel for the gallery pages.

User-Generated Content
Powered by Pickle lets publishers easily collect, moderate, and publish rich media content created by their users. Powered by Pickle can handle most situations where you want to give your users the opportunity to upload a photo or video. When editors and producers are provided the tools to make the dialog with users bi-directional, the ideas start flying. The types of things you can do with Powered by Pickle include:
- Create a user-generated complement to a feature story. For example, let’s say you had a feature story on summer vacation destinations. You may invite users to add to the piece by uploading photos from their summer vacation.
- Create photo and/or video upload contests and promotions. For example, upload a video of your version of our product jingle. The best wins the grand prize.
- Create before and after photo/video features. For example, "Great Gardens" – upload before and after shots from your recent gardening project.
- Let your users share their expertise. For example, let your users share their tips for a great golf swing, the best way to skip a rock, or tricks for knitting a sweater.
- Let the "pros" provide feedback to users. For example, a feature where professional stylists make fashion recommendations based on uploaded photos of users.
- Collect breaking news footage from witness' mobile phones.
- Let your audience share their fun times. For example, a band could set up a Powered by Pickle gallery for each show and let fans upload while at the show using their mobile phones.
Etc.
With Powered by Pickle, the technical barriers are removed and the limits are your creativity.
Produced Content
While Powered by Pickle is built to handle the special requirements of receiving user-generated rich media (support for a wide variety of formats, variable load handling, etc.), the Powered by Pickle platform also excels as a distribution and management platform for produced media that your team may produce. Whether it's photos or videos produced by team members within your office, or freelancers uploaded remotely, Powered by Pickle can provide a flexible environment to collect, manage, and distribute produced rich media content.

A widget is a piece of functionality that can be implemented into any web page. Powered by Pickle's widgets allow publishers to embed customized, rich media galleries into their websites. While there are numerous ways to customize your widget, there are two broad categories of widgets:
- Upload widgets feature an interface where users can upload photos and/or videos.
- Viewing widgets comprise a gallery where uploaded content is displayed.
|
|
|
|
Powered by Pickle lets you create rich media galleries in your site by embedding code into your web pages wherever you want to define and upload content gallery pages. The code you embed into your site produces what we call widgets. Powered by Pickle supports upload widgets and viewing widgets.
Broadly speaking, Powered by Pickle helps you to:
- Customize a widget with the feature set that serves your specific needs
- Craft a look and feel for your widget that is all your own.
- Manage and moderate the content presented in your widgets.
Widgets are comprised of two elements
- Style: A style determines the look of a widget and allows you to select the fonts, colors, and graphics used in your widget.
- Channels: A channel is the place to store all your videos and photos once they've been uploaded to your account. Within each channel you can edit, label, and organize your items.
Once you’ve chosen a style and created some channels, Powered by Pickle’s Widget Management section provides easy-to-use wizards to help you create and manage widgets step-by-step. At the end of the wizard you’re provided with embed code that generates your fully customized widget when loaded into a web page.

A channel is where the videos and photos that make up a widget are stored. One or more channels can be used in any widget. Channels can contain content uploaded by you within your Pickle account or by users in an upload widget. They can also receive content sent in from a mobile phone or via e-mail. Channels have their own set of customizable variables. Open a channel to change its privacy and contribution settings or manage its contents using tag and description fields.

A channel is the place to store all your videos and photos once they've been uploaded to your account. A widget is made up of one channel or many channels, so a channel is a component of a widget.

A Style defines the colors, graphics, and fonts of a widget. The Style Manager gives you direct access to your widget’s CSS properties. Use the CSS Editor for quick and basic style modifications or choose the Custom CSS option for more detail.
For example, you may decide to use the Arial font in black at 18 pixels for the header text in one of your galleries, while the paragraph text is read in red Georgia font at 12 pixels.. You can now apply this style to multiple galleries so that the header text in every gallery has the same look of Arial black at 18 pixels, while the paragraph text is seen in red Georgia font at 12 pixels. Click the Manage Styles link in the Widgets tab drop-down menu to edit and create new styles for your widget.

To require approval of submitted items before they are published, turn on Approve Contributions Before Publishing in the New Channel pop-up menu or in the Who Can Contribute option screen under the Privacy menu of your channel. All items requiring approval will remain in a To Be Approved folder on the front page of your partner account until you review them.
Note: If you choose to automatically publish all items without requiring approval you can still delete unwanted photos and videos at any time. Simply open the channel that contains the photo or video you want to delete, select the item(s) and click Delete.

|
|
|
Powered by Pickle allows you to set up a review workflow using Powered by Pickle’s sorting capabilities. Create new private channels for each step in your workflow. Items can then be transferred from one channel to the next as they are reviewed and approved. For example, you might have a gallery of wackiest user ideas and another with funniest user stories. You want to make sure that items are properly screened and categorized into either the wacky gallery or the funny gallery. By creating three private channels, one for all the appropriate wacky content, one for all the appropriate funny content, and one for all inappropriate content, you now have an easy review workflow.

Channels change color depending on their security setting. Powered by Pickle offers a range of security options for any given channel. Red channels are private and include material that is not shared with others. Private channels cannot be used in widgets and will not be shown in the Pickle public gallery. Green channels are public and can be shared with anyone. Public channels can be used in widgets and shown in the public gallery. Channels can also be marked as Invite-Only or Password-Protected. Powered by Pickle users may also mark a channel as Embed Only. This means that the channel’s contents can only be seen in the webpage where it’s embedded..
Change the security settings for a channel at any time by clicking on Who Can View under the Privacy menu for each channel.
|
|
|
|
See the channel key at the bottom of the channel list on your account homepage for a guide to the different privacy settings your channels can have.
